Is There a Way to Prevent Sun Spots on the Face?

Sun spots can be a nuisance for those wanting healthy-looking, evenly toned skin. These unwanted marks are a form of hyperpigmentation that are caused by the sun’s UV rays. They form due to your skin increasing melanin production to protect itself from damage. Whether you have small freckles that appear after sun exposure or develop larger spots that won’t go away, sun spots are extremely common and tend to be more prevalent as we age.

To prevent or slow the formation of sun spots, you should limit your exposure to harmful UVA and UVB rays. Helpful ways of doing this include wearing full-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF 30 or higher (and reapplying regularly), wearing protective clothing and hats to shield your skin, and minimizing time spent outdoors between 10 am and 3 pm when the sun can be more harsh. If you already have sun spots and want to address the marks before they get worse, there are a variety of minimally invasive skin treatments that may help.

Medical-grade skin care products can often help even out skin tone, diminishing spots caused from sun damage. For a more advanced treatment, laser procedures with the Halo™ hybrid fractional laser resurface the skin through its dual-wavelength system, and BroadBand Light (BBL™) Therapy delivers photothermal energy to achieve skin renewal.

How to Get Rid of Chest Wrinkles

The chest is one of the first areas to show signs of aging, due to sun damage and the natural aging process. Often called the décolletage, the chest commonly develops wrinkles and thin, crepey skin over time. This is caused by a decrease in collagen production and less elasticity. Lines and wrinkles on the chest are especially common in women as a result of breast tissue pulling the skin. While it’s well-known that facial wrinkles can be minimized with certain products and treatments, many people may not realize their chest wrinkles can also be improved.

At the Dermlounge, our aesthetic professionals offer a variety of anti-aging treatments for the face, chest, hands, and other areas that can make a patient feel self-conscious. Those wanting to target their chest wrinkles may benefit from treatments such as laser therapy, chemical peels, filler injections, and medical-grade skin care products. Two of the most common solutions recommended for our patients tend to be fractional CO2 laser resurfacing and micropeels.

Our fractional CO2 laser technology creates microperforations in the skin to help stimulate the creation of new collagen. As more collagen is produced, skin tone and texture gradually improve to create a more youthful look. Micropeels, on the other hand, are a less invasive treatment that addresses the outer layer of skin. A superficial type of chemical peel, the micropeel can help brighten and smooth the outermost skin for a rejuvenated chest appearance.

The best treatment for wrinkling on your chest will ultimately depend on the extent of your needs and your aesthetic goals. When you come in for a consultation with one of our aesthetic professionals, they can help you find the most appropriate treatment option(s) for helping turn back the clock on your aging décolletage.

Spider vs. Varicose Veins

Spider veins and varicose veins are common conditions that cause blood vessels to take on an especially noticeable appearance. Spider veins are typically red, purple, or blue and tend to appear on the legs or the face. Varicose veins are larger, raised vessels that can develop on the legs. While spider veins are considered more of a cosmetic concern, varicose veins can cause a number of uncomfortable symptoms, including swelling, aching, throbbing, and restless legs.

Both types of veins are linked to causes including genetics, obesity, hormones, and excessive periods of standing, such as with certain occupations. Women are more prone to developing both spider and varicose veins. Even when these vascular conditions produce minimal discomfort, many people are unhappy with how they look and often try to conceal them.

If you struggle with spider or varicose veins, our team at the Dermlounge offers laser vein removal that may help you reduce, if not completely eliminate, your condition. To learn if you are a good candidate, please contact us to schedule your consultation!

How Long Is Recovery After Laser Skin Resurfacing?

shutterstock_266918558Laser skin resurfacing can be a highly effective treatment for patients who wish to improve their complexion. By using fractional C02 laser technology, our skin care professionals can even out the tone and texture of your skin. Following your treatment, there is typically little to no downtime needed.

Immediately after your laser skin resurfacing procedure, you may notice a tightening effect, which is caused by old collagen contracting. Fine lines may look smoother, and pigmentation tends to improve. Some redness and irritation may occur, often compared to that of a mild sunburn. However, this should quickly fade within about 1 to 2 weeks. Most patients can resume their normal activities immediately. Should you need more extensive treatment sessions, you may desire about 1 to 2 days of downtime.

As you progress through your recovery, your results should continue to improve, often for six months to a year, due to new collagen production. This is what helps smooth your skin, diminishing wrinkles and acne scars. The process can also reduce pore size and provide a more even skin pigmentation.

Depending on your appearance and cosmetic goals, you may wish to return for additional treatments to reach optimal results. A customized treatment plan will be created and discussed with you at the time of your consultation.

Is Laser Skin Resurfacing Right for Me?

1 (1)If you’re looking to renew the appearance of your skin, you may be a good candidate for laser skin resurfacing. Our team at Dermlounge utilizes Fractional CO2 resurfacing to help diminish wrinkles, scars, stretch marks, and uneven skin pigmentation. With this state-of-the-art laser technology, Dr. Neil Zemmel directs light energy at the skin, which creates microperforations that stimulate new collagen production.

Laser skin resurfacing is highly beneficial for many patients wishing to improve their complexion, but certain individuals are not considered good candidates for the procedure. Factors that may prevent you from achieving optimal results from laser resurfacing include:

  • Active acne
  • Especially dark skin
  • Deep wrinkles
  • Excess, loose skin

When you come in for your consultation, our experienced plastic surgeon will determine whether the treatment is right for you, or if another option is better suited for your needs.

How Long Is Recovery After Laser Skin Resurfacing?

woman-smooth-skinLaser skin resurfacing is a non-surgical method of facial rejuvenation that can address a wide range of common skin concerns. Our fractional CO2 laser treatments can effectively treat larger areas such as the abdomen and hips, but is also delicate enough to treat areas such as the areas around the eyes and mouth. The benefits of laser skin resurfacing can include:

  •      Reduced appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  •      Lightening dark spots and age spots
  •      Reversing the visible effects of sun damage
  •      Achieving a more even skin tone
  •      Smoothing and softening scars and stretch marks

By simultaneously shedding dead or damaged skin cells and stimulating new collagen production, fractional CO2 laser resurfacing treatments can reveal a smoother, more youthful complexion. As an added benefit, unlike older methods of CO2 treatments, our fractional CO2 laser can minimize downtime and reduce the risks of scarring or pigmentation.

Mild redness and irritation are the most common side effects of fractional CO2 laser treatments, and these inconveniences typically resolve within one to two weeks. Antibiotic and antiviral medications are prescribed for all patients a few days before treatment to prevent infection. To maximize the results of your laser skin resurfacing treatment, we recommend you wear sunscreen daily for at least six months after the procedure. In addition, some of our patients at Richmond Aesthetic Surgery’s med spa choose to undergo multiple treatment sessions for a more complete skin rejuvenation.
