What Is Dysport®?
Dysport® is a prescription injectable that is used to temporarily treat mild to moderate wrinkles of the face by weakening the muscles of expression. Dysport® is a newer formulation of traditional BOTOX® Cosmetic (abobotulinumtoxinA) that ceases the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine to the muscles of facial expression. This in turn causes the muscles to relax, stopping muscle contraction. You will then experience a decrease in muscle movement which helps to soften fine lines and wrinkles.
The most common areas treated with Dysport® injections are the frown lines between the eyes, the crow’s feet, and the horizontal lines of the forehead, as these are all caused by frequent muscle contraction. With continued use of this dermal filler, these lines should gradually fade, and a smoother facial surface should result.

The Dysport® Injection Process
During your appointment, we will discuss the concerns you have with your facial appearance and what you hope to achieve through treatment. After performing a physical examination, we can then determine if Dysport® is the most beneficial solution for your needs. Should you be a good candidate for the injectable, a treatment plan will be created and customized to your unique concerns.
To begin your Dysport® injections, the target areas will be numbed with an ice pack, reducing potential discomfort during treatment. Using very small needles, Dysport® is carefully injected into the prepared areas with the utmost precision. The entire process—from the consultation through the injection process—takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. You will receive detailed aftercare instructions to help you get the most from your Dysport® treatment.
Dysport® vs. BOTOX® Cosmetic
Both Dysport® and BOTOX® Cosmetic are neuromodulators designed to minimize dynamic wrinkles around the face. Each injectable is composed of the same mild neurotoxin that causes the facial muscles to relax for smoother, more youthful-looking skin.
Since every treatment plan is unique to the individual, the total cost of your Dysport® session will vary based on multiple factors. This includes the number of facial areas being addressed, the amount of Dysport® needed to correct each area, and if other treatments are being combined with Dysport® to help you achieve your cosmetic goals. To get an accurate quote of how much your Dysport® treatment will cost, please make an appointment at Dermlounge for your comprehensive consultation. Once your treatment plan has been created, our staff can explain any fees associated with your cost, as well as go over potential plastic surgery financing options, should you be interested.
Dysport® Side Effects
Side effects following Dysport® injections are typically minimal. You may experience numbness, swelling, and bruising at the injection sites. However, these should quickly subside within the first week after treatment. Applying ice to the area can help reduce these side effects during this time. Should you be concerned about any developments following your Dysport® injections, please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions.
